My parents asked me to build a table using used table tops. There were no legs, but the tops were thick enough to make legs out of. The top was a rectangle with half circles on each ends. I started shaping the top using only hand tools. Shave and look, shave and look, shave more, think... machines are fast, and hands are slow, but they are pleasant.
Not wanting a perfect ellipse, I was imagining a silkworm cocoon for the table shape. It is something ambiguous that is not as set as an oval I felt. A mood of soft white cocoon is in this dining table story.
